I’m drawn to capturing the most ordinary moments I suppose, in part, because the big moments feel less likely to suffer the fate of being forgotten.
And oh, how I don't want to forget.
A thousand tiny things.
The weight of a baby in my arms. The sound of a toddler laughing. I want to remember how they pointed their tiny fingers and how they told stories that tangled and danced.
But I want to be in the memories, too. I am not just creating a childhood for them-- I'm creating a life for all of us.
So let me also remember my loving, though often tired gaze. Let me remember the era of the Bonnie Raitt grey streak.
Let me see in photos how, yes, we do have the same nose, the one I got from my own mother.
Let me make art of the freckles that crisscross our checks.
If you crave this sort of remembering, these sessions are for you.
If you find it so hard to get in the frame, these sessions are for you.
If you want to celebrate the all too often unsung work of motherhood, these sessions are for you.
Not just the you in the mirror, but the you that is in your children, the you that is in the spring light, the you that memories will carry.
